5 Simple Ways to Increase Blog Comments
By Sheila on Sep 16, 2009 in Blogging Tips
increase blog commentsPosts that inspire comments from your audience can become part of what makes your blog more popular, and can keep it that way if the comments keep coming.
Right or wrong, the number of blog comments you have is seen as an indication of how successful your blog is.
Here are some ways to increase the amount of commenting that takes place in your blog.
1- Make it as easy as possible for visitors to comment.
That means taking down every barrier to commenting except spam control, until comments start to rise.
That includes:
•letting visitors leave comments without logging in
•removing all authentication processes such as captchas and verifying their email address,
•turning off moderation, as well as letting readers know that comments aren’t moderated,
•installing plugins or tools that will allow them to log in with Twitter or Facebook profiles or integrate their comments on those sites with your site
•getting rid of anything else that slows down the commenting process. Until you have a high traffic blog, you probably won’t have to worry about anything other than the basic level of spam.
So keep a cautious eye, but get rid of restrictions one by one and see if the increase in participation after a week is worth a few off-topic entries. Not only can you delete those later, but, you can re-enable any of anti-spam measure the instant the volume of spam gets out of hand.
2- Find out what people want to know on your topic and write about that constantly.
If your sites is about pet lovers, and people want to know all about organic dog and cat food, write about it. It might not be your favorite topic, but if it brings you engaging traffic, make it a regular conversation point. Your site is there to serve your population – at least that’s what it should be about if you want your blog to help you make sales.
3- Stay on topic.
Even if you have a themed day that’s a little outside your topic area (like our Tool Time Fridays with Morgan Lighter) make sure all those posts can still relate back to your central subject.
For example, the other day, Morgan wrote about a tool that can turn YouTube videos into a format compatible with iTunes. Put that together with some of my tips on how to get traffic with web video and you have a whole new use for recordings you uploaded to YouTube and other sites.
If you have trouble coming up with something to write about, your topic may be too narrow. If you can’t seem to pare down the number of available topics to one over-riding theme, your topic may be too broad. It’s okay to shift or widen your focus to fix that problem, but once you pick a final topic, stick with it.
4- Post regularly to become part of your reader’s daily habits.
People are habitual creatures. They’ll most likely find your site and include it in their new habits through doing one of their old habits.
Today, someone got up, brushed their teeth, got ready for work, went to their office, read their email, then the news or their RSS feeds (or both.) If they found your site through some other blog’s feed they read, and decided to add you, whenever you have a new entry, they’ll at least read the headline.
That opportunity only comes up each time you publish. After that first six weeks, it’s not as important that you’re doing so daily. But you should be putting up posts in a predictable fashion IF you want regular commenters. Whether it’s approximately every 24 hours, or every Tuesday and Thursday at 2:21 pm isn’t as important as making it a regular occurrence.
5- Leave an open-ended question or query at the end of each post.
If you look at Chris Pirillo’s blogs over at Lockergnome, instead of ‘Leave a Reply’ above the comment form, it often says something like ‘What do you think?’
In addition, when you create a post, the last sentence of your post can be a question to your audience that allows them to continue the conversation. If all other barriers are removed from commenting, sometimes the issue is that you’ve done such a good job writing the article that there’s nothing else to add. Turn your fantastic monologue into dialogue by asking a question, point blank.
Leaving your post open to input stimulates conversation online in the same way.
Remember, blog comments aren’t necessarily a measure of how well your blog is doing. But a responsive community can help indicate whether you’re on the right track.

Chocolate Leaves
With the holidays just around the corner our minds will turn to cooking, eating and making pretty dishes. Chocolate leaves can make any table setting really stand out and they are really simple to make but you will need to have everything ready and work fast. The best leaves to use are mint, lemon or rose but I've used small tree leaves as well. Just make sure you are using leaves from a plant that isn't toxic. Gather your leaves, wash them gently and allow to dry completely. When ready to make your leaves, in the microwave melt 1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips and 1 tsp. shortening. Stir until smooth. With a small art type paintbrush, apply a thin even coat of chocolate to the underside of each leaf. Place your leaves chocolate side up on waxed paper and refrigerate for 10 minutes or until completely set. Brush on a 2nd layer of chocolate and chill until set. When ready, gently peel the green leaves away from the chocolate. Carefully place your leaves into a covered container and store in the refrigerator until ready to use.
From friend Blog!!!
For more color, use colored white chocolate which can be found at most craft stores that carry candy making supplies. You can even do combinations of red, green and orange to represent Fall. Or when applying the 2nd coat to your brown leaves, you might want to brush on a slight coat of another color such as green or red. Be creative!"

The food you are eat make a huge impact on your body. All foods fit into three categories: pro-inflammatory, neutral, or anti-inflammatory. You can help to slow aging at the cellular level by choosing foods that are anti-inflammatory and rich in antioxidants such as cold-water fish and richly colored fruits and vegetables.

Homemade juice
fresh-wild-Concord-Grapes-from-Georgetown-MA
Wild Concord Grapes abound here in the North Shore of Massachusetts, and we have one winding it’s way up and around an old Horse Chestnut tree in the back of our Georgetown, MA office. Opening the windows to let the late summer breezes in brings the heavy, sweet fragrance of ripe grapes wafting through with every stir of the leaves. Distracting, but inspirational!
concord-grape-leaves
A local food that’s easily foraged, but often forgotten, I look forward to them every year. Because they are tart and have hard little seeds inside, Concord Grapes are usually not eaten out of hand, but they make the most marvelous juice. If you can manage to collect a colander (standard size) full of them, you can produce a gallon of delicious, fresh grape juice without too much of an effort. Do wear some old clothes though - things can get a bit messy!

Recipe for Homemade Concord Grape Juice:
* Remove the grapes from the stems - if you run your hands lightly down the stems they mostly fall right off. This seems like a daunting task - your hands get absolutely purple - but it goes quickly and the result is worth it.
* Add just enough water to barely cover the bottom of a large stock pot and add the stemmed grapes. Heat on high, and as the water comes to a low boil, start mashing the grapes with a potato masher. It takes under ten minutes of the boiling and mashing to separate the the pits and the skins from the flesh of the grapes. When this has happened, take off the heat and allow the mashed grapes to cool.
* When cooled down, line another pot or very large bowl with a double layer of damp cheesecloth, allowing it to drape over the sides so it won’t collapse. Pour your mashed grapes into the center of the cloth, and very carefully (very carefully!) gather the edge of the cheesecloth together, tie the top loosely, leaving a couple of handles for yourself and find a place to hang the bag you just made.
I tied this over my sink faucet and just let it finish dripping for a half hour.

* You can leave it longer if you want very clear juice, but I just squeezed it until I thought I’d gotten most of the juice extracted.

* You can cut this concentrated juice with other juices or water, or even save a cup or two to make jelly. It’s not very sweet as-is, but a teaspoon or two of sugar per cup will bring out the pure grape flavor and tame the tartness.
Drinking the juice plain is terrific, but if you are in the mood for an adult drink, do try this simple cocktail!
Concord Grape Cocktail*
* 6 ounces fresh grape juice
* 1 ounce vodka
* Splash of tonic water
Mix grape juice and vodka together, add the splash of tonic water and serve on the rocks."
Dijete-SAVIJETI I TRIKOVI ZA MRSAVLJENJE
Proljece je stiglo! Visak kilograma se nakupio tokom zime i sad muku mucimo s djietama.
Evo nekoliko dobrih savjeta za lakse podnosenje muka po dijeti!
Salate sigurno imaju najmanje kalorija pa ih mozemo jesti skoro pa neograniceno!
Izaberimo dijetu koja nam odgovara i hranu koja nas veseli!

Pregnant with Cancer
I have more than admired his strength throughout his battle. I don't know how he held on so long but he did and he did it with attitude. I respected him so much for it. I felt pride when I heard him talk about it. He wasn't the kind to give up. Here's to you Patrick. I loved you since I was a little girl. I have such great memories. I loved when you danced with Chris Farley. I loved you in Dirty Dancing. I saw it probably 100 times. Maybe more.
Thanks for showing us all what fighting is about."
